Dupuytren's Contracture

Also known as: palmar fibromatosis

Overview

A condition in which one or more fingers bend in towards the palm due to the development of fibrous connective tissue between the tendons of the finger.
.Treatable by a medical professional
.Doesn’t require lab test or imaging
.Can last several years or be lifelong
.Common for ages 50 and older
.More common in males
.Family history may increase likelihood

SYMPTOMS

If you are experiencing new, severe, or persistent symptoms, contact a health care provider.

The commonly observed symptoms are as follows:

.Development of digital cords that limit finger movement
.Flexion contracture
.Nodules on the skin

Causes

The cause is unknown, but it is linked to genetics.
.The risk factors include:
.Being male > 50 years
.Heredity
.Diabetes and seizures are associated with Dupuytren’s .contracture
.Alcohol and tobacco use
DIAGNOSIS
Your provider may recommend one or more of these diagnostic tests and procedures as part of an evaluation.Diagnosis is done by physical examination, and digital cords are looked for.

TREATMENT
Your provider will work with you to develop a care plan that may include one or more of these treatment options.Surgery and the therapies are the available treatment options. Includes Needle aponeurotomy, fasciotomy and collagenase injection.
